So now, occasionally, he reaches for something and his hand goes right through it. It's happening more and more frequently since he saw that video of Tidus talking to the Fayth. Great. Fun. This isn't awkward at all.

At least it seems to be happening slowly.

If he started to notice, he didn't give any indication that he was aware of the condition. Cross had always been a person that accepted things for what they were. Fighting for something meant that there would be sacrifices and despite the ideal of achieving progress without it.

"How long has it been happening?" Cross says. Despite being a person that never answers a question, he is extremely forward and confrontational about other things.

And Jecht has no real option but to answer.

"Two or three days, I guess."

"Are you dying?" It came out colder than he wanted it to, but Jecht said that they were in this together. In the end, people die and let you down.

"No, I ain't dying."

If only wishing made it so. Jecht would fight to stay corporeal to the very end. He knew Cross had abandonment issues; the last thing he wanted to was compound them.

"If that's what they're calling it these days."

It probably would have helped if Cross wasn't being flippant about it. Whatever, die, see if he cares.

"Whatever."

FINE. MAYBE HE WILL.

"Fine, whatever."

This was a very awkward moment between two very emotionally stunted people.

Awkward. And strangely heartbreaking, not that Jecht would ever admit as much.

Why didn't he bother to tell him when it first happened? Cross could have flipped through research, done experiments, done something. If Jecht was going to be a nihilist, Cross was going to help him on his way. Though he was more than irate, he just kept staring at Jecht evenly.

The thing is, it started happening so gradually, even Jecht didn't notice. Not until it became obvious that he was fading in and out, losing his hold on himself.

Cross has no idea how to handel this. What does he do?

"Com'on, lets go for drinks."
